Being Digitally Anti-Fragile part 3
Owning your digital presence is owning your brand. This is the only real long-term marketing strategy.
This is part 3 in a 3 part series on how to create a antifragile digital presence. Part 1 focused on diversifying your presence. Part 2 discussed how to own your audience. Today we will discuss the the owning your own presence.
Own your presence
Create your website and blog.
I know this seems simplistic. However, this is the best way to own your brand presence. Yes audiences prefer video and images over reading. The internet still runs on text though. The algorithms are great at reading text. They are not very good at images. Even now in the age of Neural Networks.
There are many ways to own your brand online. Regardless of business application.
For Example, You can run your own ecommerce store while also selling on Amazon. There are many options. Self-hosted ones like WooCommerce/Wordpress, Magento, Prestashop, etc. And full-service ones like Shopify and BigCommerce. If you want even simpler solutions, you can use Squarespace, Wix, or Weebly. All of this will appear in searches when people search for your brand.
You can own every aspect of your presence on your own website. From promotions to the user experience. Of course, you will be competing with hundreds or thousands of other sites in your niche. Though far less than what you will face on major platforms.
There is one direct digital channel that is clearly untapped. With minimal competition and a high barrier to entry.
Mobile Apps
Creating an App for your business or brand is the best thing you can do right now. You may ask, "Who will install this app?". It is like asking "Who will subscribe to our mailing list?", or "Who will follow us on Instagram?". Target has over 45 Million active users in the US alone. Even niche retailers like Best Buy and Wayfair have over 25 million active users.
Yes, you do not have the brand cachet of this big retail outlets, but no user has a reason to install an app for these retailers. They incentivize their users to install their apps. Apps give you access to two of the most important pieces of digital real-estate; mobile home screens and mobile notifications.
Mobile Apps are the final frontier for digital brands. We here at MakThis are trying to make it easier to access that channel. If you want to turn your ecommerce store into a mobile app, join the waitlist here.
